Match Fixing

Published by under 6D,NathanMc

Cricket is known to be the gentlemans game but recently that has been brought down. Four Pakistan cricketers have been caught match fixing. Match fixing is where players deliberately mess up to win money on bets. But this has started a debate internationally about whether or not these cricketers should be banned.

These cricketers should be banned. Sportsman that match fix should be banned from sport permanently because it is unsportsmanlike and illegal in some places. It also brings the sport into disrepute. It is just not cricket and these players should be banned for life from the game of cricket.

On the other hand doesn’t every one deserve a second chance. It should be no different for sportsman. They have made a mistake and deserve a second chance. Also they could lose massive sponsorships and not be able to support their familys.  There are also worse things happening in the world than match fixing like murder e.t.c. and so aren’t these things more important than match fixings.

In the end it is up to you to decide what to think. In my opinion I believe they should be banned for life because it is illegal to match fix and it brings the sport into disrepute.

Girl Tradies

Published by under 6D,NathanMc

Traditionally employers have employed young men to work trades but that could all change soon. Lots of young girls have started to tak a keen interest in learning trades. This has sparked a great debate about equal rights.

Girls deserve equal oppurtunities as boys. Firstly girls generally have better attention to detail than boys and this is very important. If you don’t do everything right in construction  there could be a major building disaster. Also the population is going up and there is more people staying at school and not doing trades so they can go to university.

On the other hand construction sites are dangerous work sites. Also women are not as strong and can put other workers at risk by dropping things. They also have paid maternity leave which men don’t. Also they might not be treated as equals.

There are clearly two sides to every story. In my opinion it is up to the girls to choose what they want to do.

2030 trail CERES

Published by under 6D,NathanMc

On the 29th of july 2010 we went to Ceres. We learnt lots but the thing I found the most interesting was the 2030 trail. We had to list certain things and they equalled up being a letter that if we were the average Australian what would the world be like in 2030. Some of the questions were how big your house and car would be and if you had certain luxury items or the immagration policy and how many kids you had. My letter was F and it was okay. In it the world still had 75 years worth of natural resources left and the temperature had only risen by 1 degree. There were only 18 million people and pollution was under control as well as global warming. The thing I think it taught us was that if we don’t change our ways we won’t be able to enjoy all the things we have now in the future and I think that was a really good lesson. We also did activities on water, recycling and organic gardening and we got to pick up chickens. It was fun.

Holes Book Review

Published by under 6D,NathanMc

The book holes has a lot of twists and turns. It all starts when Stanley Yelnats gets caught with a pair of stolen sneakers. He is sent to Camp Green Lake to dig holes. He becomes good friends with Hector Zeroni(Zero). His family was supposedly cursed by Msdame Zeroni over 100 years ago. Their are many secrets that you will have to find out along the way.

Zero is a very courageous person who had to live on the street. Everybody thinks he is dumb because he can’t read or write but in the end he turns out to be one of the smartest . Stanley was a bit overweight and got bullied before he went to Camp Green Lake. His family were always struggling with any of their endeavours and they always blamed it on their no good dirty rotten pig stealing greatgreat grandfather who was cursed.

The adventures that Stanley and Zero haveare magnificent. This is a great story about two familys whose paths have crossed before,is it destiny or just fate. Either way once you pick up this book you won’t be able to put it down. I rate this book ***** 5 stars.

2010 World Cup

Published by under 6D,NathanMc

The upcoming world cup has been a big discussion for a long time. People are scared for their safety hearing about all the violence that goes on in South Africa.

South Africa is one of the most dangerous places in the world. There are many brutal murders and bashings every year and people feel that if they for instance walk down the wrong street they could be in big trouble. The South African Government is assuring people that they will be safe and that they have boosted security measures but it is up to you.

This event is the biggest in the world, even bigger than the olympics. The country that hosts it usually rakes in around 3.6 billion dollars and about twenty 2ix billion people tune in all around the world. Its no wonder countries are fighting over who is going to host the 2018 and 2022 world cups.

All in all this world cup is for sure going to be a great one.

Oil Spill

Published by under 6D,NathanMc

Recently in the middle of the Gulf of Mexico a BP oil rig has exploded. Scientists believe that this will have the potential to be the worst enviromental disaster ever.

BP are a massive petrol company and have taken full responsibility for this terrible disaster and have been trying as best they can to stop the oil from leaking out. Firstly they tried using robot subs to plug the hole underwater but sadly that didn’t work. Now they are thinking of building massive metal boxes over the holes but this could take up to three months and with eight hundred thousand litres of oil leaking into the ocen every day this could have a devastating effect on the enviroment.

All over the land people have been putting up barriers wherever they can to hopefully stop the oil from hitting land. They are also using planes to drop chemicals and they are trying to set the oil on fire.

Even with all these attempts at trying to stop it I believe this could be the worst enviromental disaster ever.

Boy Overboard Report

Published by under 6D,NathanMc

Boy Overboard is a gripping adventure about a brother and sister, Jamal and Bibi. These two rising soccer stars were living in Afghanistan when the government found out about their mum’s illegal school that she was running. They were forced to trust smugglers to take them to Australia where they could start a new life.

I feel the author has written this story to address the current refugee issue. This story has made many people like me change our minds about refugees. I used to think that these people were bad and should be sent back but now I know that most of them are escaping their government to start a new life.

I thought this book was very touching and a magnificent story. I would recommend this book to anybody who thinks refugges are all bad people because after reading this book you might just change your mind.

India Sport

Published by under 6D,NathanMc

Recently the sporting world has been in a big discussion about whether India’s security measures are good enough to host the Commonwealth Games. Many of our athletes will be heading to India for the Indian Premier League, the Commonwealth games and the Hockey World Cup, but some are having second thoughts about going.

Lately their have been many terrorist attacks in India, the latest at Pune. Terrorist groups have been making threats against all athletes travelling to India. Australian cricketers Shaun Tait and Simon Katich are worried about going to India. The cricketers say they will go if security measures are improved.

Security experts believe it will be safer at the Commenwealth Games than the IPL. The reason being the IPL is spread over many destinations where the Commonwealth Games is in one location.

Officials in India say they are going to use the Hockey World Cup to practice security measures because the threat wasn’t directed at the hockey, being more directed at the IPL and the Commonwealth Games.

In the end it is up to our athletes to decide whether it is safe enough.

Wilsons Prom

Published by under 6D,NathanMc

The year 6 camp to Wilsons Prom was about to begin. The ninety-nine students eagerly awaited the buses arrival. Three and a half hours later we arrived at Wilsons Prom.

After we arrived, the teachers took us on a walk to our campsite. It was a five kilometre walk. Just after finishing the walk we found out that we did the long walk over the mountain but we could have done a one kilometre walk. We were not happy. We stopped at Tidal River. Tidal  River is  very interesting because it is where freshwater meets salt water. It is very brown because of the nutrients that seap into the water. We walked to camp and began setting up the tents. Later that night we climbed Mt Oberon. It was a long, hard walk but the breathtaking view made it worth while.

The next day we walked to Squeaky Beach, Bike riding and shop and Canoeing. They were great fun. Later that night we did Biddies Walk. The teachers told us that one of the kids had been kidnapped. It was a joke but it really scared some of us.

The next day we did Orienteering, Surfing and ed centre. Surfing was awesome. I did three 180′s and rode backwards. It was cool. That night was Trivia Night. Our team came second by 0.5 of a point.

The next day we did beach games and boogie boarding. It was fun, I won our class flags but came eighth out of all grade six boys. That night there was a massive storm and we all got soaked. Half of the tents got flooded. We were lucky it was the last night .

The next day it was time to go home. It was a long drive back.

This was a great camp and I would do it all over again.
