Holes Book Review By Nicolas Morris

Holes is a story of conflict. The story is based in Texas. The story is based in the present day. There is a wide variety of characters and they’re all different in their own way. Anybody will enjoy Holes because it is an exciting and breathtaking story. It jumps back and forth throughout the present and the past.

Most of the main characters didn’t have a choice to go to Camp Green Lake Juvenile Correction Facility. The story includes: Wardens, Counsellors, Parents, One-legged Gypsys and Bad Boys. My favourite character is a boy called Zero, he is smart and he doesn’t talk much.

The boys at Camp Green Lake have to dig one hole a day  5 feat by 5 feat apparently to build character, but soon they find out that they’re looking for buried treasure… In one scene we find Zero and Stanley climbing a mountain that loks like a thumb. This event is significant because it changes the path of their future.

I could never relate to any of the characters in Holes. Their are some very bizarre personalities and the reader will sometimes find themselves saying ” What just happened? “. This book is hard to put down nd I rate is 9.2/10

Reflections of Market Day

The mini-market day was a great experience for as I learnt how to run a business. Our store: The JMN Multi-store sold mini pizzas and iced chocolates. Closer to the end of the day we sold out. I learnt that running a business for one day was challenging and demanding. I also found out that it was really fun when last year I thought I didn’t want to do it. I also learnt how to make customers keep on buying.

We did well on choosing the products. Our target was the senior children and that’s mostly who came. We always said to our customers ” thankyou and have a good day ” which made them smile. At one stage there was a huge rush for iced chocolates. All our customers gradually bought the mini pizzas when they were sold out Jay said ” WHOOO-HOOO “.

What I would have done differently was to make more mini pizzas, since they were so popular. Other than that there were no things i could have improved on.

At the end of the day I think it was a great experience and I learnt to be more ad careful. It was the best thing in year 6 that I’d done so far. I now know to look for sales every where I shop. I would be happy to do it again. One thing though, I never want to wear a hair net again!

Wilsons Promontory

Our camp to Wilsons Promontory started on Monday when i arrived at school very fresh and excited for what was to come. the bus trip was long and tiringbut well worth it. Halfway through we stopped at Leongatha and had morning tea, soon after we were at Wilsons Promontory.

On arrival at Wilsons Promontory before we got to the campsite we walked to Tidal River Overlook. When we got to the campsite the first thing we had to do was put up our tent. It wasn’t easy but it wasn’t hard. After dinner and lunch 100 year 6′s walked to Mt Oberon. It was 6.8 kilometres and the view was amazing.

On the following day our rotations started. The day began with a walk/jog on Norman Beach. After breakfast we had a walk to Squeaky Beach. The first rotation was surfing, i didn’t stand up many timesbut it was still really great. After that we had a walk down to the shop, i bought a Coke and an ice-cream. the bike ride was like a breeze. After dinner lots of people played Stealth, many failed but some got there…

On the third day we again woke up up at 6:00 AM and had a walk/jog. After breakfast we walked up to Mushroom rock and did a small abseil. The five metre one was a breeze and the four metre one was also quite easy. Then we walked back down to Canoeing, most people didn’t enjoy it but i thought it was quite fun, especially the game where everyone held onto everyone elses canoe and weswapped canoes. After dinner we did Trivia i didn’t like it to much, i thought it was boring…

On the fourth day for the final time we did our morning excercise, but it was a bit different instead we did some team building games. After breakfast we did a few lifesaving activities including: wade races, boogie board races, flags and a beach activity. I think i did fairly well in all of these. We then did electives. The first activity that i chose was OK because the plaster mix wasn’t right and my hand print broke. The second activity was Orienteering and i found it fun that we got to walk all over Tidal River campsite. After dinner the finals of the flags commenced Claudia Witford won. Some people then did red faces, they were all very good acts…

On the final day all we really did was pack up and go home. Ireally recomend going to the Tidal River camp if your reasonably fit and you like to get out there everyday
